I-CARD remembers Mahatma

JORHAT, Oct 4 - A four-day programme was organized by Institution for Culture And Rural Development (I-CARD) at Baghchung here to celebrate 150 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

A press note issued by I-CARD stated that a total of 117 youths from 11 districts participated in the programme.

The participants belonged to different communities and tribes.

After offering the prayer on each day in the morning, the participants listened to motivating speeches on youth and community development, human rights, volunteering for community development, spirituality, interpersonal relationship, gender sensitivity, sex education and grooming, the note said.

The speech sessions were conducted by Joseph Kawa, Drakhya Ranjan Gogoi, Father KA Thomas, Director of I-CARD, Bipul Taid, and Puspalata Mili. Group discussions among the participants too were held during the four-day programme.

The note said that cultural functions were held in the evenings each day. On October 2 morning, a cleanliness drive was carried out at Lichubari locality by I-CARD students.

Later, five short skits based on different stages of Mahatma Gandhi�s life were staged by the institute�s students. Scenes were from childhood honesty of Gandhi, the train journey to Johannesburg in South Africa, vision of India, the famous Dandi March and finally the death of Gandhi, the note stated.

A souvenir on the Baghchung village was also released on the occasion by Dr KK Sharma, Chief Agronomist, Assam Agricultural University, the note mentioned.
