AGARTALA, Aug 14 - The Union Government has decided to boost socio-economic condition of the North East by utilising its hydrocarbon resources, offical sources confirmed here.
To push the plan, the Centre has already unveiled Hydrocarbon Vision-2030 for NE at a meeting held in Guwahati on August 9 last, said ONGC Tripura Asset Manager SC Soni.
Tripura would be immensely benefited from the Hydrocarbon Vision-2030, he told the media at a press conference. According to an estimate, Tripura, which has good reserve of natural gas (hydrocarbon) may get Rs 412 crore if the Vision is implemented.
Under the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030, utmost importance would be given on the overall development of the NE region, he said, adding that if the plan is implemented gas production would be doubled during the period while every household would be covered with piped gas.
Besides, a gas pipeline is also mulled connecting Bangladesh and Myanmar with the North East and some parts of West Bengal and Odisha.
It will be a joint effort involving ONGC, GAIL and other stakeholders. The matter will be cleared after a second meeting schduled to be held here in December, he said.
The ONGC plans to go for massive drilling in Unakoti districts Khubal area in search of natural gas to push another ambitious plan for setting up a fertiliser plant in the district.
He said altogether ten wells have been drilled at Khubal so far but hydrocarbon (gas) has been found only in three wells. We have indentified nine locations at Khubal where intensive drilling will be taken up very shortly and two rigs will be engaged for drilling, he said.
By December 2017, ONGC Tripura Asset is supposed to submit its report to Director General (DG), Hydrocarbon after knowing the true potential of gas there, he said.
If gas potential is sufficient then ONGC will go for setting up a fertiliser plant based on Khubal, he said.
As per the study, the proposed gas based fertiliser plant will require 22.4 lakh MMCMD gas per day.
On the supply of gas to NEEPCO, the Asset Manager said ONGC is committed to supply gas to Manarchak power plant by end of December next.
