Hunger strike for Assam Accord implementation staged

NALBARI, Aug 15 - In protest against the government�s failure to implement the Assam Accord even after 35 years of its signing, the Nalbari district unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) is staging an 18-hour-long hunger strike starting from 3 pm at the Nalbari Natya Mandir here today.

The hunger strike will end at 9 am tomorrow just before hoisting of the National Tricolour. A total of 35 AASU activists joined the hunger strike to mark the 35 years of the Assam Accord. They are also protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the Draft- EAI.

President and general secretary of Nalbari district unit of AASU Gunajyoti Pathak and Akshay Deka respectively and central executive member Bhabajyoti Bezbaruah also took part in the protest and criticised the governments for its lackadaisical attitude towards the implementation of the Assam Accord.
