Hunger strike by Tinsukia AGP

TINSUKIA, Sept 12 � The Tinsukia district committee of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) staged an eight-hour hunger strike from 8 am at its office complex here on Thursday.

The protest was resorted to by the party demanding implementation of the Assam Accord in its true sense, permanent solution of the long-pending border problem of the State and checking of skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

Party district president Prakash Dutta, office-bearers, members, etc., participated in the hunger strike. Dutta demanded protection of the people of the State in the border areas and also setting up of Assam Police battalions in those vulnerable areas.

Regarding the Assam Accord, Dutta said that all provisions of the Accord should be implemented to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people of the State. He further demanded that the present price rise of essential commodities should be checked immediately.
