Hundreds throng mega legal aid camp at Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 27 - Hundreds of poor people thronged a mega legal aid camp held at the Debargaon Model LP School premises here on Sunday.

The camp was organised by the Assam State Legal Services Authority in association with the District Legal Services Authority, Kokrajhar and was supported by the Bodoland Territorial Council, Kokrajhar.

The Executive Chairman of the Assam State Legal Services Authority and Gauhati High Court judgee, Justice AK Goswami and Justice AM Buzorbarua, R Bhattacharjee, secretary, DLSA, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Promila Rani Brahma, Minister for Social Welfare & Soil Conservation, BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyari, BTC Principal Secretary BC Phukan, Kokrajhar SP, Rajen Sing and other top judicial and civil officials attended the camp along with other guest and dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Mitali Thakuri, District & Session Judge, Kokrajhar said that the camp has been organised for the first time in Kokrajhar aimed to facilitate people on the approaches to avail benefits of the government schemes. �All are equal before the law. Therefore, no individual or group of people should be privileged or discriminated by the Government,� said BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary while addressing the gathering. Mohilary also requested the judicial authority to organise such legal aid camps in the other three districts of BTAD also to make all the people aware about law and their rights on the Government schemes.

On the occasion, tricycles for the physically-challenged, tractors, financial grants-in-aid and other materials were distributed to a select numbers of beneficiaries by various departments.
