KALAIGAON, April 16 - More than 100 students of schools situated in the Indo-Bhutan border villages in Udalguri district had a wonderful experience when State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma interacted with them at Garuajhar in Udalguri district on April 10.
Several other dignitaries also took part in the interaction programme. The programme was organized by the Dhansiri Forest Division as part of the awareness meeting on the issue of man-elephant conflict in Udalguri district.
Eighty-one people have lost their lives in the man-elephant conflict since 2014 till date in the district. Forty wild elephants were also killed because of the conflict.
Sonalee Behra, a girl student of Garuajhar High School, urged the Forest Minister to introduce forestry in the school syllabus so that students could learn the basics of forest and wildlife.
Sonalee also requested Brahma to solve the problem of encroachment on forest lands.
Other students also expressed their views in the programme.
Thanking the participating students for their interests, Brahma said elephants are the most wise animals in the world and humans are responsible for the creation of man-elephant conflict.
Rihon Daimari, Minister of PHE and Food & Civil Supply, said smaller patches of forests should be created on vacant lands.
Attending the session as invited guest, senior journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap spoke on the need for generating awareness among children and school students regarding conservation of flora and fauna of respective localities.
