Human chain for pollution-free Diwali

GUWAHATI, Nov 6 - NSS unit of Nowgong College, in association with the NCSU and NCC cadets of the College, formed a human chain at the college premises yesterday, displaying placards for a pollution-free green Diwali, said a press release here today. Members of the student union�s executive body and teaching and non-teaching staff of the College also took part in the programme.

On the occasion, sweets were distributed and balloons were also burst, said a press release here today.

Principal of the college, Dr Sarat Borkataki welcomed this innovative step of the students for celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali and spreading a message to the society as a whole. NCSU president and general secretary Iash Ahmed and Kritikamal Bora respectively apprised the gathering about the chemical hazard resulting from the practice of bursting crackers and cited the dangerous pollution level of New Delhi as an example.

Programme officer of the Nowgong College NSS Unit Dr Bhuban Chandra Chutia thanked all the participants and ensured continuation of such steps to generate public awareness on the need for an eco-friendly cracker-free and plastic-free campus and environmental sensitivity.
