Human and dog marathon on Feb 18

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 - AWE...Ent, in association with Marcon Wand, is organising Indi Dogathon, the first of its kind human and dog marathon carnival at the Veterinary Ground, Khanapara on February 18. The event will include games, inspirational speakers talking about dog care, violence against dogs, silent demonstrations, adoption zone, pet grooming, food, etc, said a press release.

The objective of the event is to motivate the people and government to open a pet park in the city, look into street dog welfare and form a platform for selected NGOs to raise funds.

The organisers hope to use the event to create awareness about creating a suitable and friendly environment for street dogs through adoption drives to be launched at the venue by famous pet rescuer and award winner Dr Sangeeta Goswami along with her NGO People For Animal (PFA). They also seek to spread the voice against dog smuggling across the region.

Over 2,000 people are expected to attend the event both with dogs and without.

Other activities at the event will be setting up of adoptions zone, silent demonstrations by animal activists and NGOs, talks by industry experts on dog grooming, health care and behavioural training.

The event will have friendly competitions such as music hoop, dress up, heavy pooch and dog macho eater. To keep the crowd entertained there will be puppet shows, song requests, live grooming and stalls with food and accessories even for the dogs.

The organisers have signed up famous Assamese actress Barsha Rani Bishaya as a brand ambassador.
