Huge quantity of suspected heroin seized; one arrested

NAGAON, June 22 - In a sudden raid conducted on basis of a secret information, Nagaon town police today arrested one drug peddler along with a huge quantity of suspected heroin weighing around 9 kilograms, one bag of tobacco leaves, thousands of small plastic containers, cash of Rs 53,375.00 and other illegal substances from the house of a widow situated at Nagaon railway station near Morikolong police outpost.

According to sources, the arrested person has been identified as Bablu Hazarika (19), the son of the widow, Anuwara Begum who managed to escape from the spot before the police reached.

Sources said that the police had solid intelligence input about the storage of those illegal drugs, following which it conducted a raid at the house of the widow and finally got the breakthrough accordingly. Police during the raid recovered as well as seized a large quantity of poisonous narcotics suspected to be heroin, weighing more than 9 kilograms, a bag full of tobacco leaves, cash of Rs 53,375.00, a bike, one Hero Maestro, a small electronic weighing machine, hundreds of small plastic containers, ornaments made of silver and some other objectionable particles from the house, the sources said adding that the police has launched another search drive in quest of the widow.
