MANGALDAI, June 15 - The task force under Darrang Excise department in continuation of their operation against illicit spurious liquor, contraband drugs, ganja etc., has managed to nab three illicit spurious country liquor dealers from different locations of Mangaldai including no 1 police point, rice market and Kerimeri and seized around 1300 litres of liquor from their possession.

The persons held in this connection have been identified as Maniram Das (56) of Begamukh, Sukdeb Das (53) of ward no 5 and Katiram Boro (55) of Gelaidingi under Mangaldai Police Station.

On the other hand, a joint team of Excise officials and police also seized several bottles of beer illegally kept for sale in a grocery shop at Sipajhar. Action has already been initiated as per the provision of the Excise rules, said a source from Darrang Excise Department.

Meanwhile, in response to repeated public complaints about the frequent movement and assembly of a group of antisocial elements and users of contraband banned drugs, ganja and other intoxicated substances, a team of Excise officials on Monday evening reportedly raided the area close to Mangaldai Stadium, but all such intoxicated youths managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

According to a source, the department has already asked the custodian of the stadium, the Mangaldai Sports Association for arranging sufficient lights in the stadium campus and to seal the boundary to prevent the entry of unauthorised intruders during evening hours. However, the sports body is yet to respond to the appeal, the source reiterated.
