Huge drug hauls in Manipur drive

IMPHAL, Oct 11 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that drugs worth around Rs 1,000 crore were seized during a campaign launched by the police against drug abuse in the State.

Stating that the police have been successfully carrying out the campaign with cooperation from the public and civil society organisations, the Chief Minister said the drug menace should be uprooted from the State. He was speaking during the inauguration of a police outpost at Sora Khunuda Ching in Kakching district and Twin Type-II quarters at the Thoubal Police Station complex.

Education Minister Th Radheshyam, chairman of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd Dr Sapam Ranjan, MLAs Y Surchandra, Paonam Brojen, L Sushindro, K Meghachandra, Md Abdul Nasir, Th Satyabrata, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu and DGP LM Khaute attended the event.

Biren Singh also stressed the need for providing alternative means of livelihood to drug peddlers after reforming them.
