Huge cache of arms, ammunition recovered

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 - A day ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, a joint team of Guwahati Police and Udalguri Police conducted searches at multiple locations in Udalguri district and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition along with explosives.

Based on a specific tip-off, police teams sprang into action since last night and subsequently recovered the arms and ammunition which were found hidden underground.

The recovery include five AK-56 rifles, two AK-47 rifles, two M-16 rifles, an airgun, seven 9 mm pistols, 23 magazines, five hand grenades, five highly explosive bombs, seven 40mm grenades, 166 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 300 rounds of .303 ammunition, 79 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 200 detonator caps, and 20 kg of explosives.

Talking to media-persons, Police Commissioner of Guwahati Munna Prasad Gupta said the recovery was made late last night and that the recovered arms and ammunition are suspected to have been procured by the NDFB.

Although no one has been arrested in connection with the recovery so far, police said that they are on the job to get to the root of the arms recovery.
