HS toppers ascribe success to hard work

GUWAHATI, May 23 � The toppers of the Higher Secondary examination have attributed their success to hard work and support from parents and their respective educational institutions.

Kashmiri Das of the Cotton College, who topped the list of position holders in the Arts stream, said that she enjoyed studying and that is one of the reasons of her success apart from her dedication to work. Daughter of Bhagyalakshmi Das, an SBI employee and late Dhiraj Das, Kashmiri has decided to continue her studies in the Cotton College with Economics as a Major subject in her graduation. �I want to compete for the IAS,� she said.

Pooja Sarma of the same college, who secured the 9th position in the Arts stream, acknowledged the support of parents and teachers who contributed to her success. She wants to become a teacher.

On the other hand, the Commerce toppers, majority of whom belonged to the Gauhati Commerce College, extended their gratitude towards their mentors and the college authorities. The Gauhati Commerce College secured nine positions which created a jubilant atmosphere in the college. Shalaka Jain from this college topped the list of first 10 position holders. The Commerce topper thanked God and her parents and teachers for the success. Shalaka, daughter of Sunil Kumar Jain and Seema Jain, wants to contribute towards the economic growth of the State which she feels she can do through entrepreneurship. She put in 8-10 hours of study for the examination and intends to do her B Com in the same college.

Second position holder in Commerce Nikita More of the KC Das Commerce College, Guwahati, who studied 7-8 hours daily before the exams, expressed her gratitude to the principal of her college.

Sixth position holder in the Science stream, Kakali Priyam Goswami of the Cotton College said that hard work and systematic approach to life are the factors behind her success. �I am grateful to my parents for their inspiration and in future, I want to be a chemical engineer,� she said.
