By MAMATA MISHRA

GUWAHATI, April 24 - The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has indicated the possibility of declaring the HS final year exam results in June, 2020 as it has resumed assessment of the answer sheets in all its 48 evaluation zones across the State.

The State education department has issued a notification to the deputy commissioners of all the districts to allow and ensure safe passage to the teachers engaged in the evaluation process to and from the evaluation zone, to complete the exercise smoothly for declaring the results in time.

Last year, the HS final year exam results were declared on May 25, 2019 and this time AHSEC was planning to announce the results within May 15.

Sources in the AHSEC confirmed that the evaluation zones have been asked to complete the process by May 5 so that the rest of the procedure can be efficiently carried out when the lockdown is eased. Approximately 7,000 teachers are engaged in the evaluation process across all zones.

AHSEC Controller of Examination Pankaj Borthakur told The Assam Tribune that more than 80 per cent evaluation was complete before the entire exercise came to a halt due to the nationwide lockdown.

Now, as the assessment has started again, we are trying to complete it in a manner so that results can be declared within June. This however, is subject to an improvement in the prevailing condition and easing of travel restrictions, Borthakur added.

State Education Minister Himanta Biswa has also been monitoring the entire process, he mentioned.

This year, approximately 2.35 lakh students wrote their HS final exams in Arts, Commerce, Science and Vocational streams. The exams were held from February 12 to March 14 at 772 centres.

Meanwhile, the AHSEC has already confirmed promotion of HS first year students to the next grade without conducting any examination. From Friday onwards, it has also started putting online course content for the second year students on https://YouTube.com/c/EduAid India.

The council will upload videos of business studies from Monday to Saturday, accountancy on Monday and Thursday and economics on Tuesday and Friday. Schedules of other subjects will also be given subsequently.
