GUWAHATI, March 16 - The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) is set to declare the HS Final year results in mid-May, much ahead of May 30, the date when last year�s results were declared.
Often drawing flak from students and the society for some goof-ups or controversies during the exams, the Council has conducted an error-free exam this time after seven prolonged years.
Expressing satisfaction at the way the exams were held this year, AHSEC chairman Dayananda Borgohain said that the process of evaluation is going on swiftly in 47 evaluation zones and hence, results can be declared much ahead of last year�s result date.
To encourage competency and discipline among the exam centres, venues and evaluation zones, the Council has also introduced cash awards in three categories. AHSEC would reward its best examination centre, best venue management and best evaluation zone with Rs 50,000 each.
The HS Final exam was held in 772 centres and 20 additional venues across the State. This year, a total of 2,42,843 students appeared in the exams and 942 supervising officers were appointed for the purpose, apart from 43 observers monitoring the exams.
�The exams were held under the supervision of our team headed by controller of examination Pankaj Borthakur. A number of new measures were initiated this time that assured successful planning and execution of the entire process of holding the exams this year,� Borgohain said.
The Council had banned use of mobile phones, watches and all sorts of electronic devices by students as well as teachers in the examination halls. Apart from CCTV cameras, mobile jammers were used at some centres to ensure that technology is not misused.
This year, the Council also took the bold step of dropping 66 exam centres where there was a problem in holding exams due to various reasons. The step was taken after a thorough enquiry by the AHSEC in association with district authorities.
Facing the challenge of misuse of technology for spoiling the exams, a cyber intelligence committee was formed with cyber experts from Delhi and the State CID.
�As part of our efforts, the question papers were packed in transparent poly packs so that different question papers are not exchanged during the time of picking,� Borthakur said.
