HS Biology examination rescheduled

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 12 - The Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC) has decided to hold the HS final year biology examination on March 24 with a fresh question paper. The examination was earlier scheduled on March 17.

The decision came after a meeting of AHSEC officials with the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and a number of other student organizations today on the issue of allegations of question paper leak. The charges surfaced after striking similarities were found between some of the AHSEC question papers and the test papers prepared by the Science Academy, Goalpara.

Moreover, the meeting chaired by AHSEC chairman Dr Dayananda Borgohain also decided to renew the CID inquiry into the question paper leak of 2016 and include the fresh allegations into the ambit of the probe.

The AASU in a press statement confirmed the rescheduling of biology examination and a CID probe into the matter beginning from 2016. The CID inquiry that started in 2016 remained inconclusive for some reasons. We have asked the authorities to renew the probe and include the fresh allegations into its ambit, AASU sources said.

It may be noted that another inquiry committee headed by a retired judge is already conducting a probe into the matter.

The AHSEC officials have assured us of all possible steps to ensure that no injustice is done to examinees. The discussion was held in a very amicable ambience, where thrust was given on keeping the integrity of the council intact and assuring the students of a safe academic future, AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya said.

The student body also brought the matter of similarities between the elective English question paper and the test paper of the Science Academy, Goalpara. The elective English examination was held today.
