HQ, West to play for crown

GUWAHATI, Jan 30 � Head Quarters will play against West Zone in the final of the 43rd All India Food Corporation of India (FCI) Zonal Cricket Tournament.

In the semifinals played at the Nehru Stadium here today, West Zone upset North Zone by 17 runs while Head Quarter outplayed North East Zone by 55 runs.

In the morning session, North Zone asked West Zone to bat first, scored 120 for seven in 20 overs. Tailender Rizwan Pathan played a face-saving innings of 37 off 25 balls.

But the total became tall for the star-studded North Zone team as they were all out for 103 in 16.4 overs. Credit should be given to the West bowlers who were right on target throughout the innings. Baring Paresh Dogra (33) and Akash Malhotra (18), no other North batsman even could reach double figures.

In the second encounter, Head Quarter amassed 191 for four making merry of the North East bowlers. Mayank Sidhana (55), Dhruv Shorey (45), Umang Sharma (30), Joydeep Chauhan (29) and Nitin Saini (21) were among the runs for the winning team. The North East batsmen, except Rishav Das (51) and Rahul Hazarika (48) failed to show any courage and were restricted to 138 for nine.
