GUWAHATI, March 2 � The Head Quarter Zone and hosts North East Zone won their respective matches on the opening day of the 44th All India FCI Inter Zonal Cricket Tournament.
At the Nehru Stadium here today, Head Quarter registered a facile ten-wicket victory against South Zone while North East Zone defeated East Zone by six wickets.
Deciding to bat first the South Zone team managed to score only 63 for nine in the stipulated 20 overs. Interestingly not a single South Zone batsman could reach the double figure mark baring opener JR Srinivas (32).
In reply the Head Quarter Zone took 7.3 overs in crossing the opponents� target without losing any wicket.
In the other match of the day, East zone team scored a challenging 157 for five with two half centuries from Hrittik Chatterjee (53) and Koushik Ghosh (50). But the target was not enough as the host batsmen hit up 161 for four. Hrishikesh Tamuly was their top scorer with 56 while Romario Sharma and Rahul Hazarika contributed useful 40 and 28 respectively.
