HQ, NE win FCI cricket ties

GUWAHATI, Jan 27 � On the opening day of the 43rd All India Food Corporation of India (FCI) Zonal Cricket Tournament at the Nehru Stadium here today, Head Quarter Zone outplayed East Zone by 92 runs while hosts North East Zone got the better of South Zone by 94 runs. In the inaugural match, Head Quarter scored 156 for four in 20 overs with Dhruv Shorey (86) being the top scorer. In reply, East Zone were restricted to 64 for nine. Baring Indranil Bose (15), no other East batsman could even reach double figures.

In the day�s second encounter, North East Zone, riding on Sanzow Brahma�s 58, reached a fighting total of 166 and later restricted the opponent to 72 for seven. The championship was formally inaugurated by Pinuel Basumatary, Executive Director and president of the Zonal Sports Promotion Committee, NE Zone (ZSPC, NE) in a colourful opening ceremony.
