GUWAHATI, May 28 A number of thatched dwelling structures were gutted in a devastating fire at a slum area near No.10 railway gate at Santipur here this afternoon. None, however, was injured in the incident.

The fire started around 4.30 pm and the situation worsened following the bursting of several LPG cooking gas cylinders in the fire. Several fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after an hour. The narrow roads in the locality hampered the movement of the fire tenders.

The fire also caused trains to stop for a long time. A severe traffic jam also ensued in the Santipur-Bharalumukh area for hours.
