House panel on Home Affairs visits city

GUWAHATI, May 26 � A delegation of 13 - member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs headed by its Chairman Pradip Bhattacharya of Rajya Sabha is on a five-day study visit to Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur starting from Monday, an official release stated.

On the opening day, the delegation visited the Roop Nath Brahma Inter State Bus Terminus, Betkuchi, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Kalapahar, Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Beltola and Assam Institute of Management at Boragaon here. The committee members interacted with the officials of the organisations and took stock of their functioning and assured them of all possible assistance to further improve their efficiency and functioning.

The members of the delegation also held meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi), North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC), North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd (NERAMAC), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER), the release stated.

Assam Chief Secretary Jitesh Khoshla along with other senior officials met the visiting members and discussed a range of issues relating to the infrastructure development projects of the State, the release added.
