Hornbill fest concludes

KOHIMA, Dec 7 � The week-long Hornbill festival at Kisama heritage village, near here, came to an end this evening after showcasing all aspects of Naga life and culture.

The grand finale of the extravaganza was held at the open amphitheatre with lighting of bonfire and �unity dance� where all the participating cultural troupes representing various Naga tribes followed the dance steps of Ao tribe.

Presentation of certificates, Christmas cakes and cash awards to the all the cultural troupes marked the closing ceremony at Kisama while the grand finale of Airtel Hornbill National Rock Contest was continuing till night at the Indira Gandhi stadium here. � PTI

Arunachal to promote ties with other NE States

Itanagar, Dec 7 � Arunachal Pradesh is contemplating to promote trade ties with other Northeastern States to enhance the economic status of the land-locked State, Industries Minister Tapang Taloh has said.

�The State has enormous opportunities to develop its industrial sector but there is need to invest the resources at the right place,� the Minister said during a meeting at Panging in East Siang district yesterday, official sources said.

He, however, admitted that the State needs innovation, training and Central assistance for developing industry.

Taloh, who will attend the meeting of North East Chief Ministers and Industry Ministers in New Delhi on December 10 next, also said that the meeting is crucial as the prospects of the Look East Policy would be discussed and Arunachal has a great role to play.

�We have a rich heritage of traditional handlooms and handicraft which should be encouraged and developed by setting up village level cottage industries besides creating employment opportunities and large-scale market penetration,� he said while focusing on handicraft and handlooms sectors. � PTI
