DIBRUGARH, May 2 Hemophilia is congenital bleeding disorder where a patient bleeds profusely due to any minor cut or injury. Hemophilia Federation of India is an organisation looking after the needs of the patients, by providing medicines at very low costs, as the Factor injections needy for hemophiliacs are very expensive.

Under the auspices of the Hemophilia Society, Tinsukia chapter, World Hemophilia Day was observed recently at the Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) here, with the support of Baxter India, and doctors of the medical college, especially from the departments of Pediatrics, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Pathology, and Anatomy.

Senior teachers of the medical college, including Prof Pritikor Dowerah, Prof Ratan Kotoky, and Prof Aditi Baruah and others spoke on the importance of observation of the day. Complete screening of PWH (people with haemophilia) and CWH (children with haemophilia) by trained doctors and physiotherapists was done on the occasion.

It is learnt that the AMCH has announced one fortnightly outdoor especially for hemophilia patients to be started from this month. The institution has submitted indents for required medications, to be used at these outdoor sessions. These medicines include 900 vials of Factor VIII and 100 vials of Factor IX. An arrangement to admit three needy PWH and CWH to take admission in emergency basis and supply of Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) for them is also on the AMCH work programme.

The proceedings were coordinated by Biru Kumar Singh, vice president, Hemophilia Society, Tinsukia chapter.
