Honour for law professor from city

GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - Shubhankar Dam, professor-designate of Public Law at the University of Portsmouth School of Law, Portsmouth, United Kingdom, was recently conferred the prestigious BR Ambedkar Chair Faculty Fellow at the Columbia Law School in New York, USA, for the Fall of 2017-18 from September 1 to December 31, 2017.

The Government of India established the Ambedkar Chair at Columbia Law School in 2010. The Chair title honours BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution who had graduated from Columbia University in 1915 and later earned his doctoral degree there.

Prof Dam, who hails from Guwahati, previously held academic positions at the Singapore Management University, School of Law and the City University of Hong Kong, School of Law. Recipient of numerous teaching awards and research grants, Prof Dam is an alumnus of Oxford University where he read the Bachelor of Civil Law as a Felix Scholar and completed his Masters in Law from Harvard Law School as the Harvard University Dana Scholar.

He attended Don Bosco School, Guwahati, and Gauhati Commerce College where he secured a place in the merit list of the AHSEC examination. Prof Dam was also the James F Fleming Visiting Chair at the Australian National University, Canberra.
