Honour for Arunachal�s Rajiv Gandhi University

ITANAGAR, June 6 - Arunachal Pradesh�s lone Central university, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), has secured the 74th position among top 150 government universities of the country in a survey conducted by the EducationWorld magazine. This is the highest position the university has ever bagged in a national-level ranking system till date, an RGU press release stated here on Friday.

Education rankings for government varsities by EW India Higher Education Rankings are the first of its kind, as earlier they were limited only to private ones. For 2020-21, EW India Higher Education Rankings has introduced a separate league table rating the country�s government varsities under ten parameters namely, faculty competence, faculty welfare and development, research and innovation, curriculum and pedagogy, industry interface, placements, infrastructure, internationalism, leadership/governance quality and range/diversity of programmes offered.

The survey was conducted by 150 field personnel of the Delhi-based Centre for Forecasting and Research Pvt Ltd by interviewing 4,168 sample respondents comprising 2,214 faculty members and 1,126 final year students of 162 universities, and 828 industry representatives in 25 cities countrywide.

The RGU has scored higher grades in parameters like competence of faculty, leadership/governance quality and range/diversity of programmes offered. In the North-East region, the RGU has been placed in the third position after the Tezpur University and the North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Governor Brig Dr BD Mishra (retd), who is also the Chief Rector of the RGU, has congratulated the university fraternity on the achievement in a telephonic conversation with Vice-Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha on Friday.

It is for the second time in the last one year that the RGU has earned a national-level recognition. Earlier, in the National Institutional Ranking Framework ranking 2019, the university was placed in the 99th position among all universities of the country.

Recently, the RGU has also been selected for establishment of a Centre of Sports Science and Research under the scheme, �National Centre of Sports Science and Research�, of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, which will be the first of its kind in North East India and only the sixth in the country.
