Home Ministry officials arrive in Imphal

IMPHAL, Sept 5 � A three member high level official team of the Union Ministry of Home affairs (MHA) arrived here today to take stock of the Manipur situation in view of the United Naga Council�s indefinite ban on vehicular traffic and national projects in the Naga areas of the State.

They held a meeting with the State chief secretary PC Lawmkunga which was also attended by Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu, DGP Manipur Saheed Ahmed, Additional DGP (Intelligence) Santosh Macherla, IGP L Kailun and IGP Clay Khongsai, Director Consumers Affairs Food and Public Distribution, IOC officials and others. The MHA team also met Governor VK Duggal at Raj Bhavan here, reports said.

The UNC�s ban on vehicular traffic entered the third day today forcing the State Government to start rationing of petroleum products. Meanwhile, the government is preparing to bring in essential commodities through the NH 2 and NH 37 with security escorts.

Earlier, the MHA officials � Special Secretary Prakash Mishra, Additional Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Joint Secretary (North East) Sambhu Singh called on Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at his office chamber soon after their arrival in Imphal, sources added.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that UNC held an emergency meeting in Senapati town today.
