Home delivery of fruits begins in Hailakandi in view of Ramzan

By Correspondent

HAILAKANDI, April 24 - Door-to-door delivery of fruits has begun in Hailakandi in view of Ramzan from Friday. The Agriculture department in association with the district administration started making door-to-door delivery of fruits, besides vegetables through hawkers.

Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Dr RA Ahmed said the department has provided the fixed price list of fruits and vegetables to the hawkers and requested the consumers to make the payment as per the list.

Dr Ahmed said any hawker not displaying the price list of items and taking more than the fixed rates would be penalised and his licence would be cancelled.

Vendors will have to display the price list for information of the buyers. Any deviation on the part of the fruit vendors would pave the way for cancellation of the sale permission forthwith, he added.

He asked the public to lodge a complaint if any hawker takes advantage of the lockdown situation to dupe the consumers.

In an order issued on Thursday, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Vikram Dev Sharma stated that no shops selling fruits and dry fruits would be allowed to sale directly to the farmers during the lockdown period.

The earlier order allowing such shops to operate stands terminated. It said in view of Ramzan beginning from Saturday and for the public in general, all kinds of fruits and dry fruits would be sold by the vendors at the doorsteps of the people across the district. The district agriculture officer would select the vendors and arrange necessary passes, specifying the area of operation to facilitate door-to-door selling of fruits, the order stated.
