Hojai admin sounds alert after NEEPCO notice

HOJAI, Aug 22 � With the issue of a notice by the Deputy General Manager, Umrangso Hydoelectric Project, to all concerned to take measures against floods after the NEEPCO opened the gate of the power project to save the Kopili hydro project dam, the civil administration of Hojai has issued an alert, asking the people living in the vicinity of the Kopili river to move to safer places.

The SDO (Civil), Hojai, Munindra Sharma told this correspondent that after the message was received from the NEEPCO authority where it was stated that water of the Kopili river at the project area has crossed FRL to 609.6 metres, people living near the Kopili river under Hojai subdivision were alerted and all the circle officers and the officers in-charge of police stations were asked to keep a close watch and adopt measures in case of any emergency.

The circle officer of Hojai revenue circle, N Basumatary informed that the water level of the Kopili has not risen to a danger level, so the people need not panic. The situation is under close observation, he added.
