SIVASAGAR, July 14 - The historic Bor Ali connecting Nazira and Bhatiapar on National Highway-37 is in such a bad shape that commuters today avoid the road as much as possible.
Topon Kumar Gogoi, Minister of State for PWD and MP from Jorhat HPC, laid the foundation of the repair work of the 13-km road on August 31 last and assured that the road would soon be fine.
But though a year has elapsed after his said assurance, the road has not been repaired, barring dumping of pebbles on the roadside here and there.
Jayanta Borgohain of Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Rituraj Borgohain of Asomiya Yuva Mancha and Himangshu Gogoi of Tai Ahom Chatra Santha in a joint release here on July 9 demanded immediate repair of the road. They urged the PWD to begin repair works within 15 days.
Jayanta Borgohain telephonically complained that the contractor has totally neglected the work despite the commuters plight.
Not surprisingly, the organisations threatened to undertake an agitational programme like departmental office gherao if the ultimatum is not paid heed by the authority concerned.
