Hind Swaraj centenary Akhil Bharat Sarvoday Samaj meet from Feb 21

GUWAHATI, Feb 15 � Santi Sadhana Ashram, Guwahati, will host the 43rd conference of the Akhil Bharat Sarvoday Samaj from February 21 to 23 to mark the 100th anniversary of Gandhiji�s Hind Swaraj.

Over 5,000 delegates from across the country are taking part in the event which will deliberate on a host of issues including different aspects of Gandhian philosophy, the environment and the youth.

The conference will be held at the River Research playground near the National Games Village of Barsajai. A three-day interactive meet involving 500 youths from February 18 will precede the conference.

A host of luminaries from diverse backgrounds such as environmentalist Sundarlal Bahuguna, educationist and vice chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith University Dr Sudarshan Iyengar, jurist former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Chandrasekhar Dharmadhikary, PV Rajagopal from Ekta Parishad are attending the event.

Revealing this, Hem Bhai of Santi Sadhana Ashram said that the event would mark the 100th anniversary of the writing of Hind Swaraj by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

�Gandhiji wrote Hind Swaraj, a monumental and revolutionary work, in course of his 12-day voyage from London to South Africa from November 10 to 22 in the year 1909. The conference will be a tribute to the completion of a hundred years of that endeavour by the Mahatma,� he said.

A seminar on �Violence- and counter-violence-free society is possible and the need of the day� will be part of the conference. �It will also discuss several crucial issues like global warming and climate change, protection of the environment, teaching of moral values to children and youth, etc.,� Hem Bhai said.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will take part in the conference on February 21 and 22 respectively.
