Himanta suggests resetting biology paper

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 11 - In the wake of the striking similarities between the test papers of an institution in Goalpara and the higher secondary question papers of mathematics, chemistry and physics kicking up a row, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has suggested the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council to reset the question paper of biology if needed.

I have also suggested the council to postpone the biology examination if required, Sarma, who spoke to top council functionaries on the issue this morning, told journalists later.

Sources said the council will take a call on the ministers suggestion tomorrow. The biology examination is slated for March 17.

Maintaining that the council has been insisting that there has been no leak of any paper, Sarma, however, said that he has suggested the council chairman to share with the media the findings of the independent inquiry which is being conducted by a committee led by a retired judge. The inquiry will be completed within seven days.

I have also asked the council chairman to hold discussion with different organisations. The government will monitor the situation for a few days, and if required, will intervene, Sarma said.

The minister also claimed that the hitches faced by the council while holding the examinations are more often than not linked to reservation of seats of the three position holders in the medical colleges.

I have brought down the reservation from ten to three (position holders). If we can do away with this reservation, the problem will be solved. But not all quarters are in favour of this. Let us see what we can do, the minister added.
