Himanta promises bikes, scooties, loan remittance to people in Udharbond

By The Assam Tribune

Silchar, March 27: State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wooed voters at the Udharbond constituency on Saturday with promises of remitting microfinance loans taken by women. He also assured that the BJP will work towards the overall development and well-being of the people.

Addressing a public rally with a mix of Assamese and Hindi languages here to campaign for BJP candidate Mihir Kanti Shome, Dr Sarma said, “those women who took loans from microfinance at higher interest rates to the tune of 26 per cent and worried about ways to pay the interest need not take further loans as the Government will henceforth remit the existing loans which have been taken by women. Also, the BJP has decided to increase the amount of the Orunodoi scheme from Rs 830 to Rs 3000 along with free rice to the people.

Unlike the Congress government which lured the voters once in five years with thread blankets, dhoti and lungi and that too after appeasing leaders like Ajit Singh, the BJP is always working with a constructive approach to lift the wellbeing of the people.”

The Minister, in his usual manner further committed that the college and university students, both boys and girls will get scooty and bullet bikes along with a daily allowance of Rs 100 per day as per their attendance percentage.

“We have been able to arrange free admission in colleges for 4 lakh students belonging to financially weaker sections of the society. However, students who seek money for their daily expenses from parents for going to college, we have decided to give Rs 100 per day to college goers based on their attendance percentage. This would also bear a part of their fuel costs as well.”

For the girl students coming from tea garden areas, even with second division marks in Higher Secondary examination would be given scooties. Jobs have been given with full transparency and zero tolerance on corruption in the BJP regime and those who would get jobs in the coming days must ensure that they would look after their parents, he maintained.

Meanwhile, targeting the Congress and AIUDF, Himanta reminded the people that while the State Government and BJP leaders were visiting hospitals across the state risking their lives during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, Congress leaders who have joined hands with AIUDF were nowhere seen. And now they are approaching people with guarantees.

“It is the term and time of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP but it is strange to see leaders like Sushmita Dev and Ajit Singh coming up with guarantee. Congress is like old and devalued Rs 500 notes. Arey, tumhara gurantee kaun lega wo thik nahi, tum gurantee le ke aya. Log bewakoof hain kya? Accha company kabhi guarantee nahi deta, jo dukan se guarantee se lega wo kharab hoga” the Minister said sharpening the attack on the former Congress MP from Silchar.
