Himanta inaugurates Science stream at Rangapara College

TEZPUR, Nov 2 - Minister for Health, Education, etc., Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma formally inaugurated the Science Stream at Rangapara College today. He also distributed appointment letters to 15 newly-appointed Assistant Professors for the Science stream. Besides ,this he also inaugurated the new building to be used for Science stream today. It may be noted that the classes for the Science stream will begin from the current month. With this, Rangapara College becomes the second college in Sonitpur district after Darrang College, Tezpur to have all the three academic streams. Inaugurating the stream, the minister said that it was a pending problem in the education sector for the people of greater Rangapara area, which has been solved today.

Dr Sarma, who was camping here since yesterday with a two-day long programme for attending a series of government functions, laid foundation stone of altogether seven model High Schools in different tea gardens under Rangapara LAC in Sonitpur district yesterday. The foundation stone laying function was followed by a public meeting at Tezpur Ghogra Tea Estate play ground, wherein he mentioned that it was a historic day for the people of the State as well as the tea garden people since earlier, nobody had taken such a step for the educational development of the tea garden people. �The Congress government was in power in the State for a long stint of time, but never thought about the people living in the tea garden areas. However, we have shown our sincerity in this regard by taking special initiatives to establish good schools in tea garden areas for the tea garden children. Accordingly in a single day, we have laid foundation of altogether 119 model schools in different tea gardens across the region,� he said.

Mentioning that Assam Tea has a reputation in the world, he also said that it is happening only because of the hard work of the tea garden people. �These people have a major role in the economic sector of the region,� he said.

On the other hand, after the Rangapara College programme, Dr Sarma today attended another five programmes in Dhekiajuli area wherein he laid foundation stone of martyrs� tomb in memory of the 1942 Quit India movement and an orphanage at Jungle Basti, Model High School at Panbari TE, Ddikrong TE and Narayanpur TE and Jagannath Temple at Tinkhoria TE. He was accompanied by the local MLA, Ashok Sighal and Tezpur MP, Pallab Lochan Das among others.
