SILCHAR, April 12 - State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma went around different places of Karimganj and Hailakandi districts on Friday to campaign for the BJP candidate Kripanath Mallah for the ensuing Lok Sabha election. He was accompanied by Patherkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul and other leaders of the party.

Starting off at Medly Tea Estate under Patherkandi constituency, Dr Sarma wooed the tea garden people by highlighting the benefits accrued to them by the government. People getting rice free of cost and all anomalies at the tea gardens are being sorted out. Also, people are being given 1 tola gold for getting their daughters married, Sarma claimed. He also spoke at Ramkrishnagar and at Sutarkandi areas of the district.

Interestingly, sources said that the Minister had to stop his speech many times at Sutarkandi due to panic among the crowd triggered by the discovery of snakes at the venue. Security persons plunged into action to remove the snakes to bring the situation under control.

Sarma held meetings and rallies at Lala and Hailakandi as well.
