Hima to receive UBC�s best sportsperson award

GUWAHATI, June 4 - The United Brothers Club (UBC) has selected new sensation of Indian athletics Hima Das as the best sportsperson and she will be honoured with the Habibun Nesa Memorial Trophy along with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh. The award will be conferred in a function to be held at Hotel Novotel here on July 1.

Disclosing this in a press conference here today, the selection committee members � ADG Pallab Bhattacharyya, Director of Sports Pabitra Ram Khound, former Sports Commissioner Swapnanil Baruah, sports journalists Subodh Malla Baruah and Jayanta Das revealed that along with Hima, India U-19 World Cup winning team member Riyan Parag has been selected for the UBC Emerging Player Award.

Secretary of the Assam Rifle Shooting Association Bhabajyoti Kalita and Kamalakanta Singh will receive the best sports organiser and football coach awards respectively in the function which will be attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The UBC will also honour 12 other sportspersons � Krishti Boro (tennis), Pranjal Bhumij (football), Ashmita Chaliha (badminton), Lovlina Borgohain (boxing), Hriday Hazarika (shooting), Ankushita Boro (boxing), Trisha Gogoi (TT), Anu Chetia (cycling), Biswajit Rai (para taekwondo), Anyatam Rajkonwar (special Olympics), Rodali Baruah (taekwondo), Sukumar Medhi (traditional sports organiser).
