Hijam Irabot remembered

IMPHAL, Sept 30 - The 124th birth anniversary of �Jana Neta� Hijam Irabot, popularly known as �Lamyanba Irawat� was observed in Manipur today.

The State-level function was held at the Irawat Square, Lilashing Khongnangkhong, Thangmeiband in Imphal West district in which Chief Minister N Biren Singh paid floral tributes to the statue of Irabot.

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, the DGP and other high-ranking officials also offered tributes to Irabot.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, �We should not forget the contributions of the great leader who selflessly dedicated his life for the welfare of the society. Let us follow his ideals, thoughts and work towards inclusive development of the State.�

Irawat Celebration Committee also organised a State-level function at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at Palace Compound here in which people from all walks of life took part.

Apart from Manipur, the birth anniversary of Irabot was also observed in other parts of the Northeast by different organisations.

Irabot, who was as a freedom fighter, politician and social activist, was born on September 30, 1896 and passed away on September 26, 1951.
