The owner of the vehicle Subrata Chakravarty informed this Correspondent that the pick-up van was carrying 207 cartons of IMFL against a permit value of just over Rs 5.90 lakh for his wine shop located at Tangla town in Udalguri district.

On way to Tangla, the vehicle was intercepted by an Alto car near NP Dhaba and Bar along NH-15 at Punia Bongolagarh, a few kilometres from Mangaldai town.

The unidentified miscreants in the Alto car first drag out the driver of the Bolero vehicle named Pinku Banik and his assistant Mokbul Hussain from the vehicle, snatched the mobile phone and wallet of the driver before taking him inside the Alto car with his hands tied and eyes covered. The miscreants then left the place with both the Bolero and the Alto.

However, the assistant of the driver Mokbul Hussain was left behind. On coming to know about the incident, the owner Chakravarty rushed to the spot. He and his staff searched for the driver and after a few hours with the help of Sipajhar Police, they located him at Hengalpara village under Burha Police Outpost bordering Kamrup district.
