Highway robbers� gang busted by Darrang Police

MANGALDAI, Dec 6 - Darrang Police led by the officer-in-charge of Mangaldai Police Station, Inspector Dina Bandhu Bhuyan and Sub-Inspector Krishna Kanta Laskar with the help of Bongaigaon Police recently busted a notorious gang of highway robbers by nabbing three members of the gang and also recovered a large quantity of stolen biscuits from different locations of Abhayapuri.

A truck bearing registration number NL 01K 8532 while carrying a consignment of 1,471 cartons of biscuits from a manufacturing unit of Indian Tobacco Company (ITC) situated at Ramhari on the Mangaldai to Silchar road was hijacked midway from near Changsari toll gate under Kamalpur Police Station on the night of November 26.

The following day, a case No. 610/2020 under IPC 380 was registered at Mangaldai Police Station and investigation started. Firstly, the driver of the truck was recovered in a semi-conscious state from a paddy field of Kamalpur area. The robbers first projected one of its members as the helper of the driver and then managed to make the driver consume some sedative to turn him unconscious before hijacking the biscuits-laden truck. The statement of the driver and his mobile phone number helped police to expedite investigation and after several days of search operation, Darrang Police recovered 1,371 cartons of biscuits from different godowns of Sidlisati and Lengtisinga area under Abhayapuri Police Station and managed to arrest the accused, namely Sultan Mamood, Ismail Hussain and Afjalur Rahman from Sidlisati in this connection, informed the OC of Mangaldai Police station Dinabandhu Bhuyan.
