Highest number of delayed projects in State: Centre

NEW DELHI, Dec 13 � Assam has the highest number of delayed projects with projects missing deadlines by over three years. �

A whopping number of 909 projects are under way in the north-eastern region (NER). Out of which, 208 have missed deadline by over a year, while remaining 177 have been delay by over three years, Handique informed.

The highest number of projects awaiting implementation is in Assam, where 232 projects are under execution. At least 64 have suffered delay in implementation by over a year and 54 by over three years, said Minister of Mines and Development of North Eastern Region, Bijoy Krishna Handique in a Rajya Sabha reply

Meanwhile, the mid-term appraisal of the 11th Five Year Plan and the Vision NER 2020 Document would be used by all the stakeholders while deciding on the additional investments to be made for the remaining period of the 11th Plan and also while framing their Twelfth Five Year Plans.

According to the NER Vision 2020 Document, accelerating growth in the NER to catch up with the rest of the country requires a massive increase in investment. The rough estimates of additional investments needed in the NER vary from approximately Rs 11.5 lakh crore to Rs 14 lakh crore depending on the assumptions made in respect of various factors. The document has not specified sectoral components.

Investment by the Central Government in the first three years of 11th Plan was over Rs. 82,000 crore, he said.
