High turnout indicates positive change: Gadkari

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 6 - Hailing the high voter turnout in the first phase of the Assam Assembly election 2016, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today asserted that the incredible voting percentage is an indicator of the change that is going to sweep the political sphere of the State.

Addressing media-persons here, the Union Minister said that the people of Assam have voiced their aspiration for a change through the democratic exercise and so they came out in large numbers to cast their votes. This high voting in Assam is against corruption and misrule of the Congress. This voting is against the failures of the government. This voting is in retaliation to Congress betrayal, said Gadkari.

The Union Minister also took the Congress to task for the poor progress rate in the State. He pointed out that despite getting an opportunity for 15 years to fulfil the aspirations of the people, the Congress never bothered to resolve the problems of the people and the State.

He mentioned that the per capita income of Assam was lower than some of the other NE States. The number of educated unemployed youth has increased, thousands of small-scale industries have been closed down, medical amenities are not satisfactory and the government failed to perform to peoples expectations, said Gadkari.

The BJP leader exuded confidence that the BJP-led alliance will emerge winner and will usher the positive change that the people are aspiring for. People are discontented with the Congress and the BJP is the option for them. People have faith in BJP and we will not let them down, assured Gadkari adding that even if the BJP-led alliance fails to come to power, all commitments of development made by the Centre will be fulfilled.
