GUWAHATI, Oct 22 The Gauhati High Court today quashed the detention order issued by the State Government under the National Security Act (NSA) on the strength of which Kokrajhar-based television journalist Jaiklong Brahma was detained by Assam Police.

Brahma has been directed to be released forthwith if he is not wanted in any other case.

The Court has quashed the order in view of several 'legal lacunae' in the detention order and the grounds of detention issued by the Government of Assam under which the journalist was directed to be detained for one year has been quashed.

A journalist with private satellite channel Brahma was arrested under several sections of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on September 3, 2014 for allegedly hobnobbing with militants.

On September 9, he was detained under NSA by an order of the District Magistrate, Kokrajhar.
