High Commissioner of Pak meets Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - The Pakistani High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the latter�s official residence at Khanapara this evening and discussed a host of issues.

Basit also invited Gogoi to visit Pakistan, which Gogoi accepted in principle. The High Commissioner emphasised that both India and Pakistan should live in harmony.

Basit also appreciated the law and order situation of Assam and the arrangement and facilities put in place for the 12th South Asian Games being held in Guwahati. Chief Minister Gogoi also stressed regular interactions between the peoples of both the countries and said that through extensive use of sports, culture, music as a mode of exchanging interaction among the people, the relations between two countries can be strengthened. Gogoi also said the spirit of cooperation and goodwill between the countries need to be maintained.

Basit called for regular trade and cultural exchanges between Assam and Pakistan. Gogoi also apprised the Pakistani envoy of the age-old communal amity existing in Assam, said an official release.
