ITANAGAR, Oct 7 (PTI): A "hidden" language spoken by only about 1200 people has been discovered by researchers in a remote corner of Arunachal Pradesh, the home to diverse ethnic tribes and the cauldron of language diversity.
Koro, a Tibeto-Burman language on the verge of extinction, has been discovered recently in West Kameng district during a 'National Geographic' expedition for its 'Enduring Voices' project. According to researchers, he Northeast is known as a hot spot of language diversity.
Confirming the existence of such a language, Director of Research Tage Tada told PTI, "Arunachal with diverse ethnic tribes has many languages still undiscovered. We are undertaking research works on lingua-franca of different major tribes in the state...Since the language is spoken by a handful of people from Aka and Miji communities, we have not carried out any research work on Koro.
