Heroin worth Rs 1 crore seized

IMPHAL, July 28 - Assam Rifles personnel have seized a huge cache of contraband heroin, worth Rs 1.29 crore in the International market during routine checking on Imphal-Moreh sector of National Highway 102 of Manipur on Friday, according to official sources.

Acting on specific information, a van was intercepted at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district by Assam Rifles personnel. During search, the security personnel found about 258 gm of drugs concealed inside cigarette packets in the vehicle.

The passenger was taken into custody. The seized drug and the apprehendee were handed over to police.

A release said, in the past one year contraband drugs worth around Rs 69.46 crore have been seized by 26 Sector of Assam Rifles stationed in the State.

In another incident, the Customs Preventive Force stationed in Manipur also recovered gold bars worth Rs 1.25 crore during a checking at Pallel, 45 km from Imphal, the sources added.
