GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - In a bid to make tourists aware of the heritage, history and culture of State capital Guwahati, the Assam Tourism department on Saturday started a new innovative initiative named �Guwahati Heritage Walk�.

Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah formally launched the programme in the presence of tour operators� association members. Assam Tourism director Deba Kumar Mishra and ATDC managing director Bhaskar Phukan among others were also present during the launch ceremony.

The main aim of the heritage walk is to showcase a few heritage sites in the city to domestic and foreign tourists through a morning commute.

After the ATDC chairman opened the tour at 5 am on Saturday, the programme started from the North Brook Gate near Sukreswar Temple, and covered Cotton University, Latasil, Jorpukhuri, Uzanbazar, Chatrakar Devalaya and ended at Raj Bhavan. The Assam Tourism divisions have been instructed to continue with this attempt to extend the field of Assam Tourism.
