Heritage awareness meet concludes at SIRD, Amoni

KALIABOR, Sept 30 - A heritage awareness function was held on September 27 at the State Institute of Rural Development at Amoni under the auspices of the State Archaeology Directorate.

In collaboration with Kaliabor civil sub-divisional administration, the function started with mangalacharan and lighting of ceremonial lamps.

Dr DR Kuli, Director of the Archaeology, Department deliverd her welcome address while Bitupon Neog, SDO incharge of Kaliabor delivered a brief speech as guest of honour. Former minister Gunin Hazarika also spoke on the occasion and highlighted various significant points related to archaeology.

J Saikia, Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon also spoke a few words. Keshab Mahanta, Water Resources, Science and Technology and Cultural Affairs Minister, who attended the function as chief guest welcomed all and disclosed the planning of his department for preserving the heritage of Assam.

He appealed to the public to cooperate in their various endeavours. Chila Bora, former Head of the History Department of Dibrugarh University, delivered a speech on, �Preservation of Assam�s heritage sites� and cited various examples of Assam and outside.

Later, Chila Bora conducted a seminar on a few topics related to archaeology. Dr DR Kuli delivered a lecture on �Heritage preservation� while Dr NC Das, Principal of BKB College of Puranigudam spoke on �Historical background of Kaliabor�. Dr Jonali Devi, Associate Professor of Cotton University spoke on �Archaeology of NE in Retrospect and Prospect� while Nabin Borthakur, secretary of Kaliabor Sahitya Sabha delivered a lecture highlighting the archaeological resources of Kaliabor while subject teacher Bipul Bhatta shed light on �Historical resources of Kaliabor and inscriptons.�

R Sarma, Deputy Director of the Archaeology Department spoke on �Registration of Assam�s ancient resources.�

Senior citizens, educationists, college teachers, students and members of the general public attended the function with great enthusiasm.

Earlier, a souvenir titled Glorious Heritage of Kaliabor was released on the occasion.
