Herbal research institution planned at Golaghat

GOLAGHAT, March 25 � On the occasion of the 66th birthday of Dr Gunaram Khanikar, a herbal medicine specialist, which was celebrated as Banausadhi Udvid Divas on March 22, a public meeting was held under the presidentship of Upen Dutta, a journalist and educationist, at an auditorium in the campus of Dr Gunaram Khanikar�s herbal medicine garden at Chokandhora in Golaghat district.

Dr Anil Kumar Barua, former principal of Debraj Roy College, Golaghat, Dr Putul Saikia, principal of DR College, and Chandan Hazarika, principal of Furkating College addressed the audience.

Dr Anil Kumar Barua, Dr Putul Saikia and Chandan Saikia laid great stress on the establishment of a herbal institution at Dr Khanikar�s herbal garden, besides setting up of a training centre at Tetelitol. After threadbare discussion, the meeting adopted a resolution for the establishment of a herbal medicine institution for the students who would devote themselves in the study, identification and preparation of herbal medicine and would initiate research works on herbal medicine.

Several speakers, including NP Das, Dr Gunaram Khanikar and Padmadhar Nath spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Dugdha Dutta, president of the celebration committee inaugurated the open meeting. Jatin Bora, former vice president of AASU inaugurated the herbal medicine exhibition.

In the meeting, Dr Khanikar was felicitated by several organisations. Satriya dance was presented by Krishnangi Neog, modern song by Sukanya Bora and Bihu dance and Rabha Geet were presented by students of Hamdoi Senior Basic School. The vote of thanks was offered by Arunita Saikia.
