Hemanta Dutta receives Giyasuddin Ahmed Award

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 - The 24th edition of the Annual Natasurya Drama Festival was inaugurated by PWD, Finance and Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Srimanta Madhavadeva Auditorium at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on Friday.

He also presented the first Giyasuddin Ahmed Award to noted playwright, actor and director Hemanta Dutta for his contribution toward theatre in Assam.

Giyasuddin Ahmed was the founder secretary of the Natasurya Drama Festival Committee and a noted playwright and director. The award will be presented annually as part of the festival to artistes who have made outstanding contributions to theatre in the state.

The festival that will conclude on August 7, will stage plays every day at the Madhavadeva Auditorium from 6.15 pm. Entry to the plays is free except for the finale. Several directors and actors from Assam and Mumbai will present their plays in the festival.
