HAFLONG, Dec 27 - Hectic preparations are on to celebrate the Judima Festival here. In this connection, a series of programmes has been lined up to make the festival a successful one. The two-day festival will begin here tomorrow.
Talking to this correspondent, Amrit Kemprai, working president of the Judima Festival celebration committee informed that a series of programmes have been chalked out on December 28-29. �The main objective is to promote our tourism industry. In spite of having vast resources, we have not been able to reap the benefit of the tourism sector. So, we wish that this time we will be able to attract foreign and domestic tourists, �Kempraj said, adding that Haflong can be a major tourist destination by way of encouraging hotel industry. In order to encourage the tourism sector, a workshop will be held that will be addressed by experts.
�The festival will also showcase the �Judima�, a traditional rice beer of Dimasa people and to promote the tourism industry in Dima Hasao district,� he also said.
The main event of the festival will have several cultural programmes. Also, cycling, trekking, heritage walk, seminars, traditional sports will be held. In this context, he informed that an exhibition will be organised showcasing the traditional handloom products of Dimasa. The main function will begin at Dibarai playground by hoisting the festival flag.
