Heavy tourist rush to Kaziranga

KAZIRANGA, April 16 - Kaziranga witnessed a heavy rush of tourists during these Bihu festive days, as people from adjoining States including West Bengal reached here to enjoy Bihu. Hotels and resorts saw a high occupancy. Special Bihu delicacies were arranged in restaurants where the tourists including foreigners were seen eating pitha, ghila pitha, narikol laru and doi-chira. At Bogorijuri, a section of foreigners were seen celebrating Rongali Bihu and danced with the local Bihu troupe, besides undertaking both elephant and jeep safaris. Sources at the Jeep safari said that due to cloudy whether, the sightseeing at both the safari remained unsatisfactory for the tourists.

A local Bihu festival committee has been formed at Kohora which has decided to organise a cultural Bihu show from April 24-26. Singers viz., Simanta Shekhar, Rupankita and Ankita have been invited to perform at the show, besides local artists, informed Nipon Sharma, a member of Kohora Bihu Samity, adding that this year their budget for Bihu Cultural Show would be around Rs six lakh.

Local Bihu hussori teams from the adjoining villages including Bogorijuri have been performing Bihu from door to door during night time braving cloudy and windy weather. A heavy storm had yesterday created turmoil in Kaziranga, during the day time when many trees were uprooted, although no report of any major disaster was received.
